Part 38: Here's One Thing You Probably Didn't Know About The E30 Temp Cluster!

Описание к видео Part 38: Here's One Thing You Probably Didn't Know About The E30 Temp Cluster!

In today's video, we take a deeper experimental dive into the temperature gauge in the E30 and figure out how to make it work in our N54 Swapped E30!
The formula is here!
R = 0.00134876 * e ^ (3842.49 / T)
Where R = Resistance (Ohms)
Where T = Temperature (Kelvin)

Turns out that once you know the resistance values of the sensor itself, you can take an accurate potentiometer and characterize the hash marks on the actual E30 Cluster. That way, you may combine the knowledge of the curve with the resistance of the hash marks to know EXACTLY what the temperature is of the engine at each hash mark. And better yet, you can use a series resistor (I chose an arbitrary 10 ohm value 1/4 watt for this experiment) to have the temp indicator behave as expected even when you install a hotter running engine, such as the N54, which likes to run at around 220-225F!

Pretty cool what you can do when you understand how the system works!
