I show how professionals like Dustin Johnson and Cameron Champ and Rory McIlroy hit the ball far with lag tension and very short downswings. This is the secret of good golf. A downswing that is too long is a very common problem that most people never think about. If the downswing is too long the body will not rotate properly and the clubhead is not accelerating. By limiting the length of the downswing the body and hips are forced to rotate in order to allow the clubhead reach the ball while it's moving its fastest - off to the right of your body. Most amateurs try to strike the ball from their address position -- in front of their body -- which is not the impact position of the pros. The pros have a short downswing and a lot of body rotation. Amateurs do the opposite. Amateurs have a long downswing and little to no body rotation. Without understanding this principle and attempting to turn the body or rotate the hips will cause a slice or a pull. My method of teaching the swing, The Holy Grail Swing, illustrates this principle.
I forgot to mention that the first 1/3 of the swing is when we're the strongest and the club is moving the fastest. So, we need to get that to the ball before it's gone.
