Pie Floater | Australian Meat Pie with Pea Soup

I first heard about meat pie floaters when I read Terry Pratchett's Australianish novel The Last Continent. In this book the local version of bad pie-maker CMOT Dibbler introduces us to the pie floater - a meat pie served floating upside-down in a bowl of thick pea soup with a dollop of tomato sauce.
The components of a meat pie floater are simple and familiar - a minced beef pie, a thick pea soup similar to mushy peas, and tomato ketchup. The pie floater is an excellent example of drunk food.
