Kukkuteshwar Swami Shiva temple is a Shaktipeeth,a Dattatreya Sthal, a Paad Gaya Kshetra. Located at Kakinada district,65 Kms from Rajahmundry. Shiva ji is called Kukkuteshwar and Mata is called Puruhutika and Rajrajeshwari. Sage Shri paad Shri Vallabh was born here in the 14th century. Pithapuram is a very old and famous town . Here Bhagwan Shiva is worshipped as a safatik lingam and the temple is also famous for one stone Nandi. There is a shrine of Swami Dattatreya and his incarnations. This is also a Paad Gaya Kshetra where people do pitripuja. Bhagwan Vishnu had to cut the body of Gayasura because he was given a boon that whoever sees him will get salvation which wasn't correct according to karma fala theory. Therefore Bhagwan Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva asked him to lie down so that they could do Yajna for seven days as his body was the purest. Bhagwan Shiva made the sound of a rooster in the middle of the night and Gayasura stood up before completion of the seven day's Yajna. The Yajna could not be completed. His head fell at Gaya in Bihar(Please see my videos on Gaya Tirth yatra),a nabhi portion in the nabhi Gaya in Odisha and legs in Pithapuram which is Paad Gaya .In the temple premises there are shrines of Ganesh ji,Ram parivar,Kashi Vishwanath and Mata Annapurneshwari, Navagraha temple,Ma Kanakdurga temple, Kartikeya Swami with Devasena, Valli and Dattatreya Sthal with his incarnations . The temple has a vast area with a big pond where we see Gayasura statue in a lying position. Main festivals in the temple.
