The momentum has finally arrived in Indonesia where the younger generation (millennials and Gen Z) outnumber the older generation in terms of who can vote. Yet questions remain: Are the younger generation informed enough? How to facilitate and encourage young voters despite apathy? How to be critical of social media conditioning? How to care about our own issues? What to look for in a candidate? Additionally, Afu believes that current political discussions only focuses on charismatic leaders rather than issues, policies, and ideas. Through this talk, Afu shares her own journey in breaking the apathy in political practices where she further encourages young voters to choose wisely in the next election. Andhyta "Afu" Firselly Utami is a former environmental economist with the World Bank, a graduate of Universitas Indonesia with a Master's in Public Policy from Harvard University, and the co-founder of Think Policy, a platform addressing intergenerational policy challenges through evidence and empathy-based approaches. Afu actively engaged in combating climate change since her undergraduate years, advocating for policy reforms in forestry and energy sectors with the World Resources Institute. Last year, she released her best-selling book "Menjadi," which focused on critical thinking. Through Think Policy, Afu co-initiated Bijak Memilih with Abigail Limuria from WhatisupIndonesia. Bijak Memilih is a platform for everyone to easily find credible information about political party stances on important issues. Afu's talk was recorded at Keong Emas Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East Jakarta, for TEDxJakarta—a 100% volunteer-driven movement committed to ideas worth spreading. Visit us at www.TEDxJakarta.org. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
