David quickly takes you through each step of hat making at D bar J. He starts with measuring your head and getting the shape, so he can get the proper fit, and your hat will feel comfortable from the first day. He then picks a hat body, selects the correct hat block, and the process begins.
Blocking machine(1800's) pulls the brim, and the block is pushed into the body. Crown ironing (1920's) shrinks the fur felt to make it more dense. Brim pressing flattens and shrinks the fur felt. Sweatband printing allows us to put names and personalize the hats. Sewing the sweatband is done by hand. Binding is sewn on by a machine from 1919. All hats are hand creased using a Jiffy Steamer.
