In this video, I have prepared the traditional Mangalorean Sonay Sukke (Channa Sukka) using black chickpeas. This is one among the many dishes that are prepared for Monthi Fest (Nativity of our Lady). Do watch the full video for the complete recipe.

Ingredients:
Black Channa 2.5 cups ( 750 g) you can even use Kabuli channa (white channa)
wash and soak the channa overnight at least for 6 to 8 hours

Dry roast lightly :
Red small chillies - 2
Kashmiri chillies - 5
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Coriander seeds- 1 tbsp
black pepper corns - 10
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Garlic cloves - 2
Turmeric pwd - 1/2 tsp
once cooled grind the above along with a small ball of tamarind ( size of 1/2 a lime)to a fine paste.

Others:
Salt to taste
a little Jaggery
Freshly grated coconut - 1.5 cups (lightly roast the coconut and grind coarsely just one or two rounds in the blender)
oil
1/2 tsp mustard for tempering
Curry leaves for tempering
3 cloves garlic for tempering
water
