Aluminum Welding at 600 Degrees, With Any Torch and Super Alloy 5 Aluminum Welding Rod and Flux Kit

Описание к видео Aluminum Welding at 600 Degrees, With Any Torch and Super Alloy 5 Aluminum Welding Rod and Flux Kit

Super Alloy 5 is not only easy to use, but it's also very strong. John (from John Barrett Works) filmed this video of Mike brazing two aluminum plates together with Super Alloy 5 rod and flux and a propane tank.

Here's a tip for working with flux: heat up the rod first before dipping it into the powder. If the flux doesn't stick, you can try dipping the rod in water first, then in the flux. But if there's already flux residue on the rod, just keep reapplying the flux without using water.

Aluminum repair is explained step by step. When working on thick aluminum or large masses, you will need to use oxyacetylene as aluminum cools faster than any other metal. You will also need oxyacetylene for all cast aluminum due to the porous nature of casts.

Always use a tip two sizes larger than you would for brazing steel of the same thickness. The Super Alloy 5 works in all positions. Wait for the flux to turn transparent before adding the rod. The rod will ball up if the aluminum isn't ready to accept the alloy rod. Always clean your aluminum parts before using Super Alloy 5. The flux will clean contaminates you don't see. Use the 3/32" rod for bridging holes and gaps. Use the 1/16" rod for thin aluminum tubing and smaller pieces of aluminum.

The Super Alloy 5 will not work with the cheap brass torch tips. Trigger start tips are fine for pieces shown in the video above. The flux is essential for bonding to aluminum and sealing holes. There is a learning curve to brazing and soldering with the Super Alloy 5. It may take a rod or two to understand how it works.
