While discussing the boxing careers of Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas, Teddy Atlas suggests that Tyson, although a great talent, lacked resolve. Teddy argues that Tyson's first real challenge resulted in the biggest upset in sports history - losing his heavyweight title to Douglas in 1990. Despite previously failing to live up to his potential due to a lack of resolve, Douglas managed to do so in this fight, as the memory of his recently deceased mother gave him strength. Teddy points out that while Tyson was known for his explosive talent, he lacked the "engine" of character and soul that successful boxers need. Teddy suggests that Tyson's six losses represent the only real fights he had and are indicative of his lack of resolve when faced with real challenges. Teddy concludes by expressing hope that Tyson has found contentment in his life post-boxing.
