Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have unveiled the details of the submarines’ purchase under the AUKUS defence agreement.

Costing up to $386 billion, Albanese said the historic deal marks a “new chapter” in Australia’s alliance with the US and Britain, with a new fleet of eight nuclear-propelled submarines set to be built in Adelaide by 2055. Albanese said the deal is projected to "shape, strengthen and grow the Australia's economy for decades, and create around 20,000 direct jobs for Australians from trades and specialisations".
