Experimenting With Processing Time When Dyeing Cotton ... Fail?

Today I wanted to do an experiment showing the effect that processing time has on cotton yarn using fibre reactive dye. It definitely had unexpected results! This is also a great tutorial for showing how to dye multiple skeins in a uniform way.
Our Procion dye is mixed using the ratio of 2 teaspoons of dye to 240ml (8oz) of water.

The fibre used today is 8/2 Georgia Ring Spun Cotton
Colours used today are Dharma's Dances with Raisins, Burgundy and Maroon

Yarn! Cotton or other cellulose (plant based) fibre.

Fibre Reactive Procion dye - You can buy Fibre Reactive Procion dyes from dharma (US based) or Kraft Kolour (Australian based)
Soda Ash - You can find soda ash at your hardware store in the pool chemical section
Textile detergent or blue dawn/fairy dish soap
Face mask to protect airways when mixing colour
Gloves
Tarp to protect workspace
Plastic to wrap your yarn after dyeing
Measuring spoons
Funnel
Sauce bottles
