President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. acknowledged the government’s private sector partners for their initiatives and investments that help strengthen the foundation of the country and guarantee its security and self-sufficiency, as he led the inauguration of the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Global Power’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Limay, Bataan.

The SMC Global Power’s BESS facility utilizes advanced lithium-ion battery technologies that capture electricity produced by renewable and non-renewable sources to store for discharge at a later time. These technologies provide ancillary services to the grid that significantly improve its reliability by regulating fluctuations in power supply in a smart, fast and efficient manner. “Indeed, it promises great rewards for our country. Not only we’ll be able to generate sufficient, reliable and clean energy, leading to more affordability of energy, and of course, generate jobs for our people — "green jobs” — in the process. So that is a fulfillment of many of the wishes that we have for the energy system in the country,” the President conveyed.

He also recognized the SMC, headed by its President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ramon S. Ang, for being a strong partner of the government and the Filipino people, as it continues to embark on different endeavors from beverage, food, concrete structures and now to energy security, that support the development of the country.

The Chief Executive further expressed the Administration’s commitment in providing support mechanisms to private sector investors, citing several measures such as improving policies and regulatory framework for the renewable energy (RE) industry to encourage further development, as well as to increase the share of RE in the country’s total power generation mix and attract more investments therein, among others.

“Together, we will spur further advancements and reforms in our country, so not only the Philippines will have attained energy security, but it will also gain the recognition and the respect of the world as an advocate of clean energy and other green and resource-efficient practices,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his message.
