While not as glamorous as the Space Program the Earth Sciences Division does have some things going for it. For one thing none of them will ever be trapped in a capsule for years on end with only stale conversation and Bill's smelly socks for company.

Headed up by Jeb's vegan cousin Benjamin "Bej" Kerman, the Earth Sciences Division always have plenty to keep them busy. Whether it's cleaning moths out of the weather stations, dropping supplies to remote ranger huts, recovering space debris from national parks or even launching metrological satellites.

While initially equipped with Mastodons the types obscene fuel consumption and hypersonic shock wave arguably destroyed more wildlife then it saved. Fortunately they've just taken delivery of the Catfish; a brand new cargo plane design built from the ground up for minimal environmental impact. Designed with help from Bej, the catfish's twin turbofan engines set new standards for efficiency and noise pollution, even if the huge intakes have a habit of swallowing whole flocks of geese. According to Bej the bone snapping handling is an important safety feature as it stops the pilot getting bored and falling asleep at the wheel.
