The Art of Falling Apart: Adah Almutairi at TEDxUCSD

Adah Almutairi is the director of UCSD's Center of Excellence in Nanomedicine, a rapidly expanding interdisciplinary research collaborative team developing tools for the future of biology and medicine. Her own research group, the Laboratory for Bioresponsive Materials, creates novel smart materials for on-demand drug delivery, regeneration of damaged tissue, and safe image-based diagnosis. Many of these projects involve the lab's novel polymers that respond to biological (e.g. reactive oxygen species, increased in inflammation) or user-controlled (e.g. light) stimuli by degrading into mall molecules; designing materials with sufficient sensitivity to these signals requires creative chemistry and cutting-edge analytical methods.
