Bibi Jasbindar Kour, the daughter of late Sardar Harbans Singh, who donated 180 kanals of Land to Guru Nanak Khalsa College(now Govt. Islamia College, College Road, Gujranwala), migrated from Eastern Punjab at the time of partition. She was then only 13 years old. She came back to visit her birth place all the way from Indian Punjab to visit her ancestral hometown.
After spending her life in Indian Punjab, she happened to visit her birthplace along with her two daughters Prof Dr Ramanjeet Kaur & Prof Dr Jaskiran Kaur. How they were welcome in their ancestrol city watch complete video.
Bibiji Jasbinder Kaur Grewal (Wariach) is a daughter of Gujranwala hailing from Rajkot Gujranwala, While in 7th grade she left for India with her family during the partition in August 1947.
Her close association with her ancestral home and the legend of her ancestors served as the magnet that brought her here after 75 years. The homecoming has been joyous and deeply nostalgic – she is basking in the privilege of the welcome, love and affection and is recalling her strong ties to the region, its culture and its institutions. Her father Sardar Bahadur Sardar Harbans Singh, retired SP Indian Police (Central Province) and her Tayaji Hon. Magistrate Sardar Sahib Sardar Rajwant Singh Chairman District Board Gujranwala belong to the distinguished lineage of Risaldar Major Sardar Bahadur Sardar Man Singh of Radiala. Their philanthropy included an avowed commitment to education besides the welfare of society – they were thus donors to this College and to the local Yatimkhana.
Her father’s championing the cause of education extended to the education of his daughters – they went on to receive postgraduate degrees in Medicine and the Arts. Her brother, Brig. Bhupinder Singh retired from the Indian Army and spent his last years serving as Administrator of the Beas Radha Soami Hospital. As an Airforce Officer’s wife Bibiji actively worked for women and child welfare through the Airforce wives welfare association. Subsequently, based in Chandigarh, she worked for socio-economic empowerment of women and family welfare.
She is visiting Pakistan with her two daughters, Dr. Jaskiran Kaur (Ph.D) a sociologist who was teaching in New York and Prof. Dr. Ramanjit Kaur Johal (Ph.d) who is teaching at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
