The hike to the Pouakai Hut and Tarns was a gamble hike, start of winter and weather was not playing ball but still decided to roll the dice and make the trip up to the Tarns.
I hiked the Mangorei Road end trail which is the shortest route up.

Distance - 6.5km up
Ascent - 700m
Allow 2-3 hours for hike
Take warm clothes and check the weather before you go
