My Best Day Walk, Pouakai Tarns, Taranaki

Описание к видео My Best Day Walk, Pouakai Tarns, Taranaki

The hike to the Pouakai Hut and Tarns is the most popular one in the Taranaki National Park. Follow the path from the Mangorei Road end into the bush and be prepared for a steady climb up to the Pouakai Hut. Five minutes past the hut you’ll get great views down over the Ahukawakawa Swamp and from there, it’s only another ten minutes to access the Pouakai Tarns (pools). This is a good short day tramp, or you can stay over night at Pouakai Hut.

Highlights:
- Beautiful native forest
- On a clear day, fabulous views back to New Plymouth
- Get to the Tarn by dawn and you’ll experience spectacular reflections of Mt Taranaki on the Tarn. If there’s cloud on the mountain or a breeze, leave it for another day and enjoy a sleep in instead
- Easily accessed from New Plymouth
- All weather rafted track surface
- Option to experience overnighting in a DOC Hut
- Link it to other tracks for a longer or overnight trip

Lowlights:
- All weather rafted track surface was very tiring on the feet
- A very popular walk particularly on long weekends, be prepared to share the experience
- Long weekend parking is a challenge
