All About Barred Rocks, Are They Right For You?

Plymouth Barred Rocks are a great chicken breed. I have several in my backyard flock, including one of my roosters. Barred Rocks are a heritage breed of chicken that originate in the United States. They are a dual-purpose breed and are considered a large or heavy breed of chicken. I really like them, they are calm, friendly, and pretty decent egg layers. Barred Rock roosters tend to be non-aggressive and good at looking after their flock of hens. This video also goes into an explanation of why Barred Rocks are considered an auto-sexing breed, which means you can tell at hatch which chicks are male or female.
