Long keeping apples are not just about not rotting in storage. They ideally taste good too. Here I review two apples that will store for a long time, GoldRush and Pomo Sanel, in early march. Apples that keep until spring are valuable. The Winner here is GoldRush, which is well known for keeping until spring while retaining, or even improving in flavor. Both apples look similar, but have different flavors and ripen at different times. GoldRush is an offspring of Golden Delicious and combines the best of it's flavor qualities, with better texture, more flavor and longer keeping. Pomo Sanel is a late hanging apple which is good off the tree in late December to January. It is the second latest hanging apple in my orchard and very good off the tree ripe. Both apples would probably be better if picked earlier and stored in better conditions.
