Tasting 10 winter apple varieties off the tree and out of storage on new years day, both late hanging and out of storage. Some great, some good.

Tasting some late hanging apple and a few out of storage, Lady Williams, Whitwick pippin, Hauer Pippin, Newtown Pippin, York Imperial, York Imperial, Katherine, old nonpareil, gold rush and pomo sanel varieties. Most of these are Heirloom apples, gold rush and lady williams are more recent introductions. Hauer Pippin, Whitwick pippin and pomo sanel are quite rare. The others should be easier to find. Most of these are apples that hang well on the tree. Gold rush is definitely better picked in the fall and stored.
