Glycerol-3-Phosphate Shuttle| Mitochondrial Respiration | Biochemistry Basics

Описание к видео Glycerol-3-Phosphate Shuttle| Mitochondrial Respiration | Biochemistry Basics

This video provides a tutorial on Glycerol-3-Phosphate Shuttel. NADH generated in the cytosol through glycolysis cannot cross the mitochondrial membrane for oxidation to synthesize ATP. In glycerophosphate shuttle, electrons from cytosolic NADH are passed to dihydroxyacetone phosphate and convert it to glycerol-3-phosphate with the help of cytosolic glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme. Glycerol-3-phosphate oxidized to regenerate dihydroxyacetone phosphate. Electrons liberated are passed on to FAD to reduced it to FADH2. FADH2 give up its electrons to electron transport chain to synthesize ATP.
The following topics are covered in this lesson,

1. Glycerol-3-phosphate shuttle
2. Malate-aspartate shuttle
3. Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme
4. Comparison between malate-aspartate and glycerol-3-phosphate shuttle
5. Difference between malate-aspartate and glycerol-3-phosphate shuttle
