IBM CGA modes across various games

Описание к видео IBM CGA modes across various games

In the early days of the IBM PC, there were two versions of one of its most popular graphics cards, the IBM CGA (Color Graphics Adapter): an "old" variant, which was built around the Motorola 6845 display controller, and a "new" variant, which was built either the aforementioned Motorola display controller or a Hitachi 4650/6845 controller, and included a different resistor layout which affected the picture quality as well. There were also two output ports on a standard CGA card: composite (equal to that of multimedia appliances) and RGB, the forefather of the VGA port.

There are several graphical differences seen when using the composite and RGB ports. The composite image is much softer and more muted than the RGB image, which, on the other hand, is clearer and more vibrant. Such graphical differences are also seen in several games released for the IBM PC; in most cases, using composite or RGB may not drastically alter the gameplay fidelity, but there are times when it makes a significant difference, which this video will help delineate one way or another.
