Which Junk Silver Dime Is Best For Silver Stacking? Is a Stacking Stormtrooper video discussing why it is important to buy and own junk silver, or also known as constitutional silver, and which junk silver coin is best to own. When stacking silver, one should not only own pure silver bullion, but also junk silver, specifically Roosevelt and Mercury dimes. Junk silver are dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars (Peace and Morgan) minted pre-1965. So, 1964 and older is what the stacking community refers to as "junk silver". Junk silver contains 90% silver. $1 face value of junk silver coins equals $1.40. There are a couple figures one can use to find the weight in silver. Multiply .715 (or .723 is another figure floating around) by the face value to get the weight in silver. This video discusses which dime, Mercury or Roosevelt is best to own.
