Kings of karaage: Judges scour Japan for the best fried chicken

A team of judges has been on a mission to find Japan’s best karaage, or Japanese fried chicken, at the 14th annual Karaage Grand Prix in Tokyo. Known as the nation’s comfort food, karaage is taken very seriously in Japan. The competition awarded winners on April 12, 2023 for different categories, such as salt or soy sauce flavoured-karaage, as well as the best fried chicken in east and west Japan. Previous winners have seen their businesses triple.
