The trees filled with Donga Fruits (Cotton Fruit) are very yellowish these days since they bear a lot of Dongas It’s the season of Donga Fruits. It’s barely we can see its leaves here and there so that Dongas are spread all over the tree. I plucked some Dongas from the mountain along one my cusine sister’s brother. He is used to stay on the Donga trees like a monkey eating Dongas. He has no any other work these days.I wanted to make an Pickle from Dongas along with some more fruits that I could simply get from my garden. They ripened enough for a mouthwatering Pickle. I collected some Star Fruits, Batoko Plums (Lovi), Guavas and Cherries from the garden and put them into the bucket filled with Mangosteen , Mangos, Rose Apples , Langsats and Governor’s Fruits along with Dongas. I cut them all into small pieces and added salt, chilies and pepper along with some tempered dried baby shrimps and mixed them well. My taste buds couldn’t help waiting so, I tasted some sooner. The aroma was that amazing.
My brother was bothering me to prepare some Welithalapa (A traditional Sri Lankan sweet). He has been murmuring the same since few days now. My grand mother was the reason why all of us love Welithalapa. I still can remember how she made Welithalapa sitting on the floor and mixing pieces of Pittu . I have never eaten that yummy Welithalapa from any one else. Some people called my grand mother as “Welithalapa Amma (Mother)” since she was the best at making Welithalapa. Had she been here, she could have been the happiest to see me making Welithalapa and I could have been praised with her loving words.
I prepared a creamy coconut milk curry along with Fish Stew from Thalapath . At the same time I arranged the mixture of Hoppers as well. I prepared some egg hoppers and arranged the table along with Banana, Welithalapa and Lunumiris (a spicy dish made with onions and chilies). It was such a nice table with many varieties. Everyone loved it.
Next day, I plucked some ripen Kochchi from the garden. I wanted to try a new sauce with ripen Kochchi and Donga juice. It was a good match for baked bread spread with butter mixture along with curry leaves. Embrace the nature..🌿
Be good, do good, enjoy this flying life and depart..🙏🏽
May Triple Gems Bless You!!
With love, Poorna 🧡
