Polymer Science and Processing 11: Polymer nanoparticles

Описание к видео Polymer Science and Processing 11: Polymer nanoparticles

Lecture by Nicolas Vogel. This course is an introduction to polymer science and provides a broad overview over various aspects of polymers, from synthetic methods, via polymer physics and materials properties to processing into products. The overarching aim of the course is to connect molecular properties and chain architecutres of polymers with resulting macroscopic properties.

This chapter introduces polymer nanoparticles. We discuss where we are using polymer nanoparticles in our daily lifes, where they find applications in industry and modern research, and what the big promises for such systems are in the biomedical field. We then recapitulate briefly some key aspects of colloidal stability and discuss approaches on how to synthesize polymer nanoparticles. We discuss the mechanisms of emulsion polymerization and miniemulsion polymerization and compare advantages and disadvantages of the system. My group members Giulia and Herbert then show you how these syntheses are set up in the lab. We explore some special architectures by combining our obtained knowledge about interfacial polymerization and polymer phase separation. Finally, we look into the kinetics of emulsion polymerization and realize that this technique offers a solution to the radical dilemma of free radical polymerization.
