Cumbrian Hay 2024. Baling hay the classic Massey way with 2wd MF 3070 & MF 224 baler.

A completely by chance find and one I definitely wasn’t expecting on while on my travels during a very busy day filming in late July.
While filming the Same Silver 105 and MF 224 baler video that a posted a couple of weeks ago working door in the adjacent field was a delightful two-wheel-drive MF 3070 and again an MF 224 baler.
The 32-year-old MF 3070 was in beautiful condition, definitely one of the nicest MF 3000 series tractors I have ever seen (very stylish when the came out in late 1986 and still very stylish today) and is now a very rare machine especially in 2wd build and certainly up here in Cumbria. The 1980s MF 224 baler was working very well and was identical to the one working in the next field, definitely an unexpected coincidence coming across two in one day, never mind working within a stone’s throw of each other.
Also working in the same field but this time with big square hay bales were a 25-year-old Merlo P35.7 EVT loading the bales and a JCB Fastrac 2140 on trailer duties. I haven’t come across this size or type of Merlo before but it was a very tidy and looked a strongly built machine. Meanwhile the JCB would have been an ideal tractor for road haulage trailer work as I believe the farm was some distance away.
