Cumbrian Silage 2024. Massey Ferguson & JF drag chopper team lifting a heavy first crop.

My yearly visit to one of my favourite farms to once again watch the in-house forager harvesting team at work.
Powered by an immaculate MF 7614 the farms JF FCT 850 trailed harvester, bought brand-new in 1995 and now in its 29th season on the farm copes very well with the heavy first cut crop even climbing up the hill (and of course going back down again!) with a full Marshall 8.5t trailer in tow.
Swapping over the trailers is a MF 6465 as seen in the previous mowing video (also working in the distance is a neighbouring farms NH topping the pastures) while buckraking in the indoor clamp with the pedal to the metal is the farms MF 390 and Twose buckrake with it’s Duncan cab removed due to the limited access under the beams when the shed is full.
It’s always a pleasure to visit this farm and watch the family making their silage and video and take photos of this not so common practice as it was 30 years ago taking place. Filmed in Cumbria 25th June 2024.

I’m taking a short break from posting videos over the next couple of weeks (although there might be a couple of shorts) to spend some time with my family and enjoy a well needed rest from my 60 hour a week job. However I haven’t gone away and hopefully by the time I’m back the cereal harvest and fell farmers silage crop will be underway (still very wet in that area) so hopefully I can capture some late summer footage of the fieldwork going on.
