"You Can't Fight City Hall AND The Railroad" NYS&W Utica NY Branch

Описание к видео "You Can't Fight City Hall AND The Railroad" NYS&W Utica NY Branch

Back in the late 1860s, residents of Utica NY's Schuyler Street waged a spirited fight against the City of Utica and the railroad regarding plans to lay tracks down the middle of their street. As you see here, they lost and trains continue to shake foundations of houses all up and down Schuyler St nearly 160 years on.

This video opens with a short New York, Susquehanna & Western freight heading south down Schuyler Street. Next, after switching off the bulkhead flat, the train is observed toughing its way up Paris Hill's 1.8% grade in Clayville, approximately 10.5 miles south of Utica.

Still on Paris Hill, the next scene is at the Summit Road crossing in Cassville.

The video concludes with scenes in Paris Station, a stone's throw away from Paris Hill's summit.

As always, the assistance of Witold, my faithful canine companion, in the making of this video is gratefully acknowledged.
