[FR] Avant la construction de cette ligne, les touristes qui voulaient relier Interlaken à Beatenberg utilisait une diligence qui mettait alors trois heures pour effectuer le trajet pour un prix de 17 francs de l’époque. Avec l’ouverture du funiculaire en 1889 le trajet ne prenait plus que 17 minutes depuis le débarcadère de Beatenbucht pour un prix de 1 francs cinquante. Exploité à l’ouverture avec un système à contrepoids d’eau, frein sur crémaillère système Rigenbach, la ligne à été électrifiée en 1911. A cette date le plan de voie est modifié à 3 voies. Dès 1946 le funiculaire est prolongé par un télésiège qui atteint le sommet du Niederhorn. Entre 1913 et 1952 un tram reliait Thun au départ du funiculaire, remplacé par un bus depuis cette date. La station aval est également reliée par bateau avec Interlaken. Disposant à l'origine de deux arrêt intermédiaires, celui de Schmockenflue desservant des infrastructures militaires est désaffecté en 2003 puis en 2005 la ligne est entièrement reconstruite.

In 1946, the funicular was extended by a chairlift that reached the summit of the Niederhorn. Between 1913 and 1952, a tram connected Thun to the departure point of the funicular, which was subsequently replaced by a bus. The lower station is also connected by boat to Interlaken. Originally having two intermediate stops, the Schmockenflue station, which served military infrastructure, was decommissioned in 2003 and the line was completely rebuilt in 2005.
