California poppy Reserve Super Bloom for 2023

California State Poppy reserve in Antelope Valley California is experiencing a super bloom of wild flowers due to the large amount of rain in 2023. The rainfall for the areas differs greatly depending on where you are located. The state is large but on an overall the amount of rain this year has been 3 times above normal for most areas. In the past 5 years we have been so far below normal that we were considered in a severe drought.

The result of heavy winter rain has created a super bloom of wild flowers for the spring. The Poppy reserve was created to protect areas that are prone to have a large amount of wild flowers. The California poppy is a bright orange wild flower and was declared the state flower in 1903.

The reserve has over 7 miles of trails to hike in the wild flowers. It also has a good portion that is paved for wheel chair access to the area. The parking area is small and the over flow parking is in the dirt area.
The cost for parking in the reserve is $10. We like to get there early before the flowers begin to open from the heat as there is more parking available at that time.
