What's a 24 Hour Surgery Call Shift Like in Residency? | ND M.D.

The 24 hour shifts during residency are BRUTAL. Nothing pushes your body and mind more than having to make split second decisions regarding patient care running on few calories and even fewer hours of sleep. Here I try to explain how the 24 hour surgery calls for interns looks like at my program and how it truly is one of the fastest (and scariest) ways to turn you into a big boy/girl doctor.
