BENEFITS OF LONG DISTANCE SCOUTING IN JULY | 2024

July is an extremely busy month for the avid deer hunter.

By this time of year the vast majority of your preparation for the upcoming deer season should be done, with the exception of planting fall food plots. However if work and family obligations have kept you from staying on track then now is the time to hurry up and hang stands and cameras, cut access trails, shooting lanes, fill water holes and make mock scrapes.

Whether you hunt public or private ground, lease or own, July is an excellent time to do some long distance scouting.

As long as the hunter stays downwind of preferred destination food sources to avoid educating the deer then the hunter can gain priceless intel and overall inventory. And even if a good percentage of the bucks you've been watching all summer move out of the area, some will stay and not be too far off and very much in play come fall.

If terrain permits then observing the local buck population from a distance is extremely invaluable in order to help observe patterns as there are inherent limitations to relying on trail cameras exclusively.

So get out there and do some long distance scouting because not only will it reduce the summer blues, you might just lay eyes on a giant.
