On my way to the ruins of the Church of the Holy Virgin Mary, I passed by this castle ruin. I simply made an exception and visited a castle that has opening hours and charges admission. The castle is certainly worth the admission, but such places are very difficult to film. I stayed there 2 hours longer than planned in order to get almost complete shots of the ruins without tourists. Unfortunately, drone flights were also prohibited in this area. Even though I complain, the visit was worth it. I hope you enjoy the result.

Information about history:

The history of a brick castle on this site spans more than 850 years.
According to archaeological findings, the first fortress existed here as early as the 10th century.
Prince Bolesław the Long began building the first brick castle building around 1160. This building is currently considered the oldest secular building in Silesia and one of the oldest castle complexes in Poland.

At the beginning of the 13th century, Wleń Castle was expanded.

A small chapel was built for the castle's residents and probably at the same time the area of the upper castle was closed off from the south by the construction of a six-sided keep.

At the beginning of the 14th century, a square residential tower was built in the northeast corner of the castle.

At the end of the 14th century, a small building (the nursery) and a kitchen were built south of the chapel.

At the end of the 15th century, the castle took on its late medieval form. The six-sided defensive tower was demolished (due to the excessive weight on the cracked rock) and replaced by a new cylindrical keep tower, which has largely been preserved to this day.

Later there were a few further alterations, such as the relocation of the entrance.

The castle was destroyed in 1546 in the Thirty Years' War and has been a ruin ever since.
