Collenchyma is a simple Permanent Tissue found in the hypodermis of herbaceous dicot stem. Collenchyma is not found in the roots and in Monocot stem.
Collenchyma is a living Tissue and it provides mechanical support. The individual cells in Collenchyma shows unevenly thickened cell wall. As, Cellulose and Pectin are deposited at the corners of cell wall, so these corners are thick and the intercellular space is also absent.
Collenchyma resists bending and pulling action.
