Feeding on Light by Lenora Champagne - 2022

After our Founding Artistic Director Katherine Owens passed away in 2019, her husband and artistic collaborator Bruce DuBose and the Undermain Theatre Board of Trustees established the Katherine Owens/Undermain Fund for New Work.

Producing new works and nurturing new playwrights has been a core mission of Undermain since the theatre's inception. The first play staged with the support of this fund was Feeding on Light a play that Katherine had already commissioned and collaborated with playwright Lenora Champagne before her passing.

Feeding on Light was born out of Katherine's fascination with the life and works of French philosopher Simone Weil. Lenora Champagne was able to put together an entertaining and informative story of not only Simone Weil's life and works but the beautiful collaboration between Katherine and Lenora.

This World Premiere production featured Shannon Kearns, Jenny Ledel and Joanna Schellenberg (first appearing together in 2018's production of Three Sisters) and was directed by Bruce DuBose.

The design team was Robert Winn (scenery), Amanda Capshaw (costumes), Steve Woods (lights), Paul Semrad (sound and music) and Cindy Ermst-Godinez (properties).
