Progress on the Four Steam Locomotives of the Nevada Northern.

We are still at the 35th anniversary of the Nevada Northern Railway Museum, this week we are showing the current state of the four steam locomotives.

Currently, only 81 is running, but it's running super well. At first, after the restoration, it had a few odd bugs to work out. Mostly just break in and figure out the personality of this beautiful consolidation.

93 has an axle issue on the number 4 driver axle. A poor repair needs to be reworked. No big deal at all, just the sort of odd thing steam locomotives need. AND as the shops in East Ely are totally original steam shops with all the needed equipment, the only trick is finding the right people. Strange as this seems, it's hard to find people who are really good at maintaining and rebuilding steam locomotives. But we will introduce of few here! Including a young man who is working as an apprentice here. So new people learning the craft!

NOW #40. About half way through it's 1472 inspection. Really a total tear down of the boiled and running gear. Looking for problems and replacing all the boiler tubes and failed stay bolts. HUGE project, but again not too hard if you have the right people and shop.

AND the strange locomotive, #309. A shop switcher from the Mc Gill Mill. One of the strangest little locomotives ever built. Shop locomotives are often stocky little boxes that need huge water tanks, mostly to add weight and traction, but well.... ODD LOOKING. 309 will be rebuilt after the other three are operating all at the same time. In perhaps late 2023.
