12 Uses of Would / English Hub

Today we are going to learn about another most waited video in our channel ‘would’. ‘would’ is a modal auxiliary verb and can be used for various purposes in English. It is one of the most used auxiliary verbs. ‘Would’ has several meanings and can be used in all past, present, and future tenses. In this video you will be learning about some meaning of ‘would’ and we will learn the remaining meanings of ‘would’ in the next video.

Here are some examples and uses of ‘would’:
(1) Would (गर्ने थियो/ गर्थ्यो)
Subject संग केहि भएको भए केहि काम गर्थ्यो भनेर भन्दा,
1. I would play football but I don’t have a football.
म फुटबल खेल्ने थिएँ तर मसंग फुटबल छैन ।
2. Ram would play football but he doesn’t have football.
रामले फुटबल खेल्ने थियो तर उसंग फुटबल छैन ।

(2) Would (Used to) गर्ने गर्दथ्यो
subject ले वितेको समयमा केहि काम गर्ने गर्दथ्यो भनेर भन्दा,
1. When Ram was a kid, he would play football.
जब राम बच्चा थियो, उ फुटबल खेल्ने गर्दथ्यो।
2. When I was 11, I would play football.
जब म ११ बर्षको थिएँ, म फुटबल खेल्ने गर्दथें।

(3) Past of will (Indirect Speech)
बितेको समयमा भबिस्यको बारेमा कुराकानी गर्दा will को ठाउँमा would प्रयोग गरिन्छ,
1. “I will play football.”
“म फुटबल खेल्नेछु।”
Ram said that he would play football.
रामले भन्यो कि उ फुटबल खेल्नेछ।
2. “Ram will play football.”
“रामले फुटबल खेल्नेछ।”
I said that Ram would play football.
मैले भनें कि रामले फुटबल खेल्नेछ।

(4) Place of will -सम्बभाना
जसरी will ले भविष्यमा हुने काम को कुरा गर्छ भने would ले भविस्यमा हुने सम्भावना भएको काम को कुरा गर्दछ ।
1. I will play football.
म फुटबल खेल्नेछु।
I think I would play football today.
मलाई लाग्छ म आज फुटबल खेल्नेछु।
2. Ram will play football.
रामले फुटबल खेल्ने छ।
It seems to me that Ram would play football.
म यो ठान्दछु कि रामले फुटबल खेल्ने छ।

(5) Conditional sentence (If)
Subject ले म आफै केहि भएँ भने वा मसंग केहि भयो भने म केहि गर्ने थिएँ भनि कल्पना गर्छ।
1. If I were healthy, I would play football.
यदि म स्वस्थ भए, म फुटबल खेल्ने थिएँ।
2. If Ram had free time, he would play football.
यदि रामसंग खाली समय भयो भने, उ फुटबल खेल्ने थियो।


(6) Would like to -गर्न चाहन्छु (want to )
Subject ले केहि कुरा गर्न चाहन्छु भनेर भन्दा,
I would like to play football with Ram.
म रामसंग फुटबल खेल्न चाहन्छु।
He would like to play football with you.
उ तिमीसंग फुटबल खेल्न चाहन्छ।

(7) To request something from someone
कसैलाई केहि कुरा नम्र भएर अनुरोध गर्दा वा सोध्दा,
Would you play football with me?
तपाईं मसंग फुटबल खेल्नु हुन्थ्यो कि/हुन्छ कि ?
Would you teach me English?
तपाईं मलाई अंग्रेजी सिकाउनु हुन्थ्यो कि /हुन्छ कि ?


(8) Permission -अनुमति
कसैसंग केहिकुरा गर्न नम्र भई अनुमति माग्दा,
1. Would you mind if I play football here?
के तपाईंलाई अप्ठारो लाग्छ, यदि मैले यहाँ फुटबल खेलें भने ?
2. Would Ram mind if we play football here?
के रामलाई अप्ठ्यारो लाग्छ यदि हामीले यहाँ फुटबल खेल्यौँ भने ?

(9) Would you mind + gerund + object
1. Would you mind playing football with me?
के तपाईं अप्ठ्यारो मान्नुहुन्छ कि मसंग फुटबल खेल्न ?
2. Would he mind playing football with us?
के उहाँ अप्ठ्यारो मान्नुहुन्छ कि हामीसंग फुटबल खेल्न?

(1o) Would it be okay - के यो ठिक होला?
कसैले मैले यो काम गर्दा ठिक होला त भनेर सोध्दा,
Would it be okay + if + simple present
Would it be okay if I play football here?
के यो ठिक होला त यदि मैले यहाँ फुटबल खेलेँ भने ?
मैले यहाँ फुटबल खेलेँ भने ठिक होला त ?
Would it be okay if we play football with them?
के यो ठिक होला त यदि हामीले उनीहरुसंग फुटबल खेल्यौँ भने ?
हामी उनीहरुसंग फुटबल खेल्दा ठिक होला त?

(11) Would you like – before infinitive
कसैलाई नम्र भएर केहि कुराको offer (प्रस्ताब) गर्दा यसको प्रयोग गरिन्छ।
Would you like to play football?
के तपाईं फुटबल खेल्न (मन पराउनु/ चाहनु) हुन्छ त ?
Would you like to dance with me?
के तपाईं मसंग नाच्न (मन पराउनु /चाहनु) हुन्छ त ?

(12) Would
के subject ले चाहन्छ अर्को व्यक्तिले केहि गरोस् भनेर ?
Would + subject 1 + like + object/subject 2+ to + verb 1
Would he like me to play football?
के उ चाहन्छ म फुटबल खेलौं भन्ने ?
Would you like him to play football?
के तिमी चाहन्छौ उ फुटबल खेलोस भनेर ?
