In this video, I discuss the importance of developing both strength to weight ratio and POWER to weight ratio. There is a subtle difference but both are important.

Of course, strength to weight ratio refers to your ability to lift heavy weights (and your own body) relative to your size and weight. If I weigh 70kg and I can bench press 140kg, that’s a 2x bodyweight press. That’s a very good strength to weight ratio. If I weigh 100kg and I can bench press 140kg, that’s a significantly lower proportion.

Power to weight ratio refers to rapid force production, not max strength. So, if you can jump very high or punch extremely hard, that represents good power to weight ratio. The two concepts are related but distinct.

It’s a pretty nuanced discussion, however. Your power to weight ratio or strength to weight ratio, for example, will depend on the movement and muscle group in question!

With that said, there are some known and lesser known ways to train these things - which I delve into here. Enjoy!
