Evans Awene’s Journey Through Marriage

Evans Awene was born in Migori. After completing his secondary education (Form Four), he moved to Nairobi to pursue various courses. Once he finished his studies, he felt ready to start a family and settle down.

One day, Evans accidentally dialed a wrong number. On the other end was a woman, and that unexpected call led to regular conversations. After three weeks of talking, Evans decided to introduce her to his family. However, his parents were not supportive—they refused to accept her and warned him that the marriage would not last.

Fortunately, one of his cousins intervened and helped convince the family to give their blessing. Evans and the woman returned to Nairobi and began living together. Within the first month, Evans felt he had truly settled down.

But soon, he began noticing changes in her behavior. Disagreements arose, and they had to involve both families to mediate. For about two weeks, she showed improvement, but then her behavior deteriorated again. Things became so tense that they had to move to a different apartment because she was publicly embarrassing him.

One day, a prophet visited their home and shared revelations about Evans’ wife. He claimed her family had a troubled past, and that her father had committed serious wrongs.

Eventually, the couple relocated to Kisumu. By then, they had two children. Evans opened a shop and an M-Pesa business for his wife. However, she began misusing the business funds, sending money to her mother regularly. She insisted that her mother deserved a comfortable life. Meanwhile, she neglected their home, which became increasingly unkempt.

Her neglect escalated to the point where she abandoned her responsibilities as a mother. Evans was forced to report the situation to FIDA (Federation of Women Lawyers). After the case was reviewed, Evans was granted full custody of the children.

He is now separated from his wife and raising their two children as a single father.
