President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. holds a bilateral meeting with President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea at the State Dining Room, Malacañan Palace on October 7, 2024.

Both leaders, having been elected in 2022, are working together towards strengthening the existing cooperation between their two nations in various areas. Joined by their respective delegations, President Marcos Jr. and President Yoon are set to discuss matters centered on the two countries’ partnership in the political, security and defense, maritime, economic and development areas, and people-to-people ties.

Bilateral relations between the two countries began on 3 March 1949 when the Philippines became the fifth nation to recognize the Republic of Korea. This friendship was cemented by the deployment of the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (PEFTOK) during the Korean War in the 1950s.

The relationship has deepened further throughout the decades. The state visit of the South Korean Leader coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Republic of Korea relations.
