Disinformation and disruption - AI's grip on the Global South | GMF24

Описание к видео Disinformation and disruption - AI's grip on the Global South | GMF24

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be called an extractivist technology: It mines data worldwide and the Global North enjoys most of the benefits, while countries in the Global South deal with major challenges, such as biased language models. AI is a technology that could turn our media systems upside down: Disrupting business models, propelling disinformation, and undermining trust in society. But it also can be used to grant more access to information and digital participation. What exactly are the risks and dependencies in the media sector and how can people in the Global South benefit from AI's possibilities?

Panelists:
- Asmelash Teka Hadgu, co-founder and CTO of Lesan and a fellow at DAIR
- Helani Galpaya, CEO of LIRNEasia, a digital policy think tank working across the emerging Asia Pacific
- Michael Schloms, head of 'Human Rights, Disability Inclusion, Media' unit at Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
- Zoé Titus, media professional with nearly three decades of experience in journalism and media development
