Home of a man who was a medical doctor, his name was John.
He belonged to a Syrian Christian family of Kumarakom in Kottayam, Kerala.

John studied medicine in Madras, worked in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

John's family owned nine wooden boats, some were used for the mobility of the family members across the lagoons and lakes. This home is located near the Vembanad lake.
And some boats were used to transport paddy crops and households, John's ancestors were landlords of Kumarakom, they owned vast land of paddy.

It was during the British period John studied in Madras.

John's grandson Aby and his wife were very cordial to me, and offered me lime juice.

It was Aby who opened the door when I was standing at the courtyard of this 90-year-old home.

Holding my Fuji camera, I told Aby my purpose.
"I am travelling from Cochin to click photographs of vernacular homes of Kumarakom"

Aby, the soft spoken, slender man clad in a cotton lungi with a golden chain around his neck told me "Oh sure..please come over...if you need my help please tell me, I can guide you". Aby guided me.

I was at ease, when I walked the compound of this home, I also got an opportunity to observe the vintage atmosphere of the interior of this home.

Doctor John lived with a vision, he had a taste for craft and premium.

The set of wooden chairs of this home were crafted by carpenters 80years ago.
