Such an epic song and such a tasteful bassline from John Deacon! He plays beautiful slides (such as in bar 16, 26 and 46). Triplets as in bar 71-74. Licks together with the guitar in 12/8 measure as in bar 75-78. And he lays a fantastic foundation in the 6/4 measure in bars 79-91. And in the outro he plays some beautiful melodic licks as in bar 102 and 104.

I think the most challenging part of the bassline is in the Bridge (bars 79-91). You really have to dig in to get the right groove and give foundation (together with the drums) to the song. And ofcourse the lick together with the guitar (bars 75-78 and bars 92-96) is really fun and a challenge to play with the correct timing.

This song has got loads of chords and time/measure changes, which makes it fun and a challenge to play!

I play this song on a Fender Precision (USA1976) with flatwound strings. Standard tuning E A D G. No effects used except compression and a little preamp. Don’t forget to tune your bass quite a bit more low (A4 = 335 Hz).
