Ep. 209 ROCKING OUT WITH THE MOSES STRIKING THE ROCK MOSAIC!

Hey Everyone, welcome to my studio!
I have been commissioned by a church to make three mosaics that will go around the sides of a fountain, in between three spillways. They are all in the theme of Moses. Because the fountain is round, I will be working on AR fiberglass mesh with silicone and thinset as my adhesives. I am using stained glass and 24k gold smalti. The first mosaic is Moses Striking the Rock.

0:21 An update on the project so far: All the figures are finished and the water is almost finished!
0:45 I proceed to get after it.
1:06 When working on the water, I place the 24k gold pieces first and then fill in with stained glass. I shape and cut small areas first and then adhere them in place to the AR mesh.
3:24 I am stopping mid-stream to work on the pottery for the woman in green.
4:31 An amputation is afoot! Glass selection for the pot.
6:49 All the fiddly bits of gold are adhered to the mesh using silicone. I am going to try using thinset sparingly on the water as a test to see how it works.
8:10 It was no problem using the thinset behind each piece (sparingly.) Back to the water.
9:13 A look at the water, which is now done!
9:47 I'm touching base with Moses again and giving him a rock to rest his foot on. Then I'll work on all the other rocks. These rocks are a pleasure to work on.
11:57 So nice to have finished a big chunk of rocks!
12:05 I start on the other end, with the baby's rock. Then I work my way to the other rocks in the background.
13:28 As I am working on the rocks near the pot, I decide to change the rim to a lighter color of glass.
Then I continue working on the rocks. Lots of rocks.
15:33 It's been a pleasure working on the rocks! They are going in quickly and making the mosaic look so much more real - so the figures are not just floating.
