Desert X Quito to Cuenca Ecuador Day 12 (Extended version)

Mount up ready for a 468 KMS ride from Quito to Cuenca a Unesco World Heritage city. Ride out through the suburbs of Quito along the Pan American Highway to Riobamba. Roads have been upgraded and for the most part good quality and fast. Not much traffic. Lot's of stops for coffee and cakes its a long fast ride. After Riobamba we encounter more mountainous terrain as we head south through the Andes. The descent is long, windy and fast. Pretty amazing road, passing convoys of fuel lorries and some road works. Cuenca is a beautiful city, magical. We stayed in the Hotel Victoria a small hotel a few minutes from the historic centre. Great restaurants, bars and just. A very nice place to chill and relax after a hard days ride.
