During the webinar discussed the high frequency and multifactorial nature of fatigue in those affected by systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The contribution of various factors such as disease activity, depression, anxiety and pain were highlighted as well as how these factors combine together trigger fatigue in SLE. Dr Lou Kawka (MD) showed how LEAF was developed , the Lupus Expert System for Fatigue, an innovative digital tool providing personalized assessment of fatigue, as well as individualized advice for the management of fatigue.

- Prof. Laurent Arnaud (MD, PhD) is full Professor of Rheumatology at Strasbourg University (Unistra) & Academic Hospitals (France). Prof. Arnaud main clinical interests focus on the care of patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). He is leading a research group focusing on innovative strategies to study the epidemiology of autoimmune diseases, with a particular interest for the use of novel diagnostic and therapeutic digital strategies based on big data and Artificial Intelligence. With his team at the French National Reference Center for Rare Autoimmune Diseases of Strasbourg (CRMR RESO). Prof. Arnaud has contributed to more than 200 research projects in the field of rare diseases. Prof. Arnaud is the President-Elect of the European Lupus Society (SLEuro) and Disease Coordinator for Lupus and relapsing polychondritis of the European Reference Network for rare diseases ReCONNET. Prof. Arnaud is the curator of a twitter account (@Lupusreference) about lupus education, followed by more than 12.5k people.

- Dr. Lou Kawka, MD, is a resident in Rheumatology, currently pursuing her medical formation at the French National Reference Center for Rare Autoimmune Diseases of Strasbourg (CRMR RESO), at the University Hospital of Strasbourg (France). Dr. Kawka main clinical interest is the care of patients with chronic immunological diseases. Together with Prof. Arnaud (MD, PhD), Dr. Kawka has developed the LEAF, an innovative digital tool providing personalized recommendations to cope with fatigue. Dr. Kawka has also obtained a master’s degree in Biomedical Research while studying the implication of innate immunity in the pathogenesis of Sjögren’s syndrome in the Molecular and Cellular Biology Institute of Strasbourg (IBMC).
