Before you embark on your CPA exam, it is wise to consider the CPA exam fees and all related expenses. After all, it is expensive to obtain accounting qualifications in the US.

First of all, the fees can be divided into two parts: one-off and ongoing. The exam fee and application fee paid to the state board are one-off as long as you do not need to retake the exam. On the other hand, once you pass the exam, the license fee and the continuing professional education (CPE) courses are on-going but you need those to maintain active status of the license.

There are also optional expenses. CPA review courses are not mandatory, but most candidates pay for one to help them pass. There is a wide range of choices in the market, and I list out the pros and cons in this article:

The traveling and accommodation cost varies greatly depending on how close or far you live from the CPA testing center.
