Scott McGill "The Chord Book" for Guitar-Dominant 7th #11 Type Voicings on the 2456 String Family

This video covers the Dominant 7th with a #4/#11 type chord voicings found on the 2456 string family on Ab.

The basic associated harmonies for Ab7#11 are Eb minor/maj7, Gb Major7th#5, C minor 9 b5, and D7#9/b9 . These chords are derived from a Eb Melodic Minor scale and represent a "Lydian Dominant" type chord sound.

The transformation process of moving root and third to create these harmonies in relation to the Ab7/13/#11/9 sound is discussed and demonstrated along with movement of all voices to access related voicings for substitution, solo playing, and more interesting chord movement from a musical and technical development standpoint. Resolution points are to G, Db, but also to E, and Bb Major and Minor as well.
