Fred Samuels PhD is the Cell-El’s, a company aiming to develop breakthrough diagnostic bio-markers for a more objective and earlier diagnosis of ASD. Such biomarkers would pave the way for earlier intervention, better outcomes and the testing of promising new therapies including stem cells and modulation of the microbiome. Cell-EI's research aims to assess the relationship between autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and elements of the immune system to identify the underlying mechanisms that might cause ASD.

This presentation focuses on Cell-El is working to identify blood-borne, ASD-specific diagnostic markers. Using proteomics their initial analysis of a broad panel of serum proteins has identified a pattern of biomarkers - 13 in total, that can be used to discriminate between typically developed (TD) children and those on the autism spectrum.

Dr. Samuels has over 36 years of senior management experience in in vitro diagnostic (IVD) industry. He has led the development, manufacturing and CE and FDA approval of many IVD products. Dr. Samuels holds a Ph.D in Biochemistry from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and was a Rockefeller Foundation Post Doctoral fellow at the Harvard Medical School before entering the diagnostics industry.

The BRAIN Foundation https://brainfoundation.org/ is a 501c(3) non-profit. The founders of BRAIN envision a world where every child and adult on the autism spectrum is healthy, participates fully in education and employment, and has a better quality of life. It aims to catalyze research that results in evidence-based interventions for the disabilities associated with autism, and also results in better medical standard of care. To accomplish this, it funds impactful research through #philanthropy and our network of partners in the venture, corporate, and grassroots community.
